The God of the Bible is a covenant-making and a covenant-keeping God. But what is a covenant and how does it differ from a contract ? How many covenants has God made with humans ? How many of these apply to Christians today ? These are crucial questions for the interpretation and application of Scripture. The Bible is divided into two testaments, another word for covenants. Does this mean the Old Testament is only of historical interest to disciples of Jesus ? What about the Ten Commandments ? - and the other six hundred and three given to Moses ?
Some of the major differences in the Church go back to the different answers given to these questions. For example, whether baptism should be of babies or believers, whether priests, altars, vestments and incense should be used in worship, whether re-marriage is permissable after divorce and whether we should work a six day week.
By His covenants of grace, the Lord has bound Himself to us and bound us to Himself. That is the heart of Biblical revelation and Godly living.

In October 2010, David shared with more than two hundred delegates his experiences in teaching the Word of God.

He described the main development's in his style of preaching, and then provided guidance on sermon presentation, using several examples also explaining how to choose words that would make a sermon more memorable, before showing how to deliver the message prepared.

What kind of God do we present and what kind of gospel do we preach to a lost world ? Most Christians today answer in terms of God's love, yet there are surprisingly few references to this in the Bible. By contrast, Scripture concentrates on divine goodness and righteousness. One day, God will put right everything that has gone wrong in His good world, punishing and banishing evil and making a brand new earth and heaven But can we be a part of this ? The good news is that, through the Cross and Resurrection, God offers His own righreousness to us. The world needs to hear about God and the gospel of righteousness.

Talk given in Jerusalem in 2005, filmed specially for and by Revelation TV, in which the title was originally given as 'Israel Special'

David Pawson describes God's dealings with His people, the Jews, from Abraham to the present - their entry into the Land, their huge contribution to the world, but also their persecution and suffering.

If their survival points to there being a God, what does their suffering point to? David discusses the explanation and then compares God's dealing with the Jews with His dealing with Christians. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is the same God today. He wants a people on earth to demonstrate His righteousness, as He has always done.

So what is the good news of the Gospel? In the old covenant, God demanded righteousness from His people, but in the new, God gives His righteousness to us!

David concludes by describing the two main barriers to receiving God's righteousness in our life.

These two interviews with David Pawson, discussing the principles and practises of baptism, were broadcast on television in Finland, after a public debate on this crucial issue with theological professors of the State Lutheran Church in that country, which practises the indiscriminate christening of babies. David Pawson describes his own journey from that position to what he believes to be the Biblical one of baptising repentant believers by immersion

Chapters 9 to 11 in Paul's letter to the Romans have had a 'bad press'.
Usually treated as a personal parenthesis, there has been a widespread failure to realize that they are not only integral to the whole epistle but actually form its climax and contain its purpose.


Paul corrects developing anti Semitism and seeds of 'replacement theologians point to the Jewish rejection of Gospel righteousness in Chapter 10 to justify their claim that the church is now the new Israel of God.


Christian Zionists focus almost exclusively on the salvation of 'all Israel' in Chapter 11, overlooking 'not all who are descended from Israel are Israel' Chapter 9.

These talks, given at the 2002 Feast of Tabernacles in Jerusalem, relate Chapters 9, 10 & 11 to each other and the rest of the letter. They aim to bring a better Biblical balance to the vigorous debate about their present and future significance of Israel, both the State and the people, whether in the land or scattered in others.

Why were the only letters Jesus Himself ever sent addressed to a circuit of churches in the south-west corner of what is now called Turkey? And why did Satan choose to locate his permanent residence on earth in the very same district?

The answer is that both time and place were critical for the survival of the body of Christ in the face of pagan religion and worldly culture. If the saints could 'overcome' here, they would be able to do so in all places and through all times.

The seven letters therefore have a permanent message, as well as a particularly contemporary application. The world is still very much with us, seeking to 'overcome' the church by external persecution or internal corruption.
